Oil on poplar board, unsigned. Attributed to Milton Hopkins (Ohio, 1789-1844) or Noah North (New York/Ohio, 1809-1880. Young blue eyed, blond boy holding a book, a member of the Proctor family of Utica, New York. Some edge damage. 20"h. 15"w.
Estimate $1,500-3,000

Edge wear and minor loss. Old varnish is streaky and was applied when painting was in a frame giving a false positive along the edges when blacklit. Surface wear and some flaking especially along the bottom edge and right sleeve. No noticeable inpainting. 1/13
